Problem Statement
There are currently limited learning platforms for youths and adults with disabilities, as well as a lack of community and social involvement opportunities.
Increasingly, persons with disabilities are not meaningfully occupied at home. There is a lack of service providers offering programmes tailored to meet the needs of youths and adults with disabilities or with the knowledge and resources to carry out such programmes for persons with disabilities.
Solution
The project aims to improve the quality of lives of youths and adults with disabilities by providing carefully conceived and structured programmes suitable for persons with special needs.
Programmes will be conducted in a workshop-based model where skills are broken down into simpler steps and tasks for persons with disabilities (PwDs). There will be 15 programmes that cover the domains of Home & Living, Health & Leisure, Community Living and Vocation Training and 30 weekend programmes that are suitable for persons with special needs. The domains will cover skills area in Activities of Daily Living (ADL), Sports & Leisure skills, Community Living, Social skills and Vocational skills.
Outcomes
The project aims to provide and equip persons with disabilities to lead more holistic and meaningful lives. Additionally, the project also hopes to empower caregivers through training, to better support their care recipients and in replicating the skills taught to persons with disabilities, in the home, center environment and/or in the public.
